New Service Provision for Teachers

The Second Level Support Service (SLSS) extend its gratitude to all of you that supported the work of the service throughout the years since its establishment in 2001. A new cross - sectoral service, the Professional Development Service for Teachers  (PDST) will be established in September 2010. The PDST will subsume much of the work of the SLSS. Details regarding this new service will be communicated with schools in due course.

The SLSS is happy to inform you that the resources, materials and functionalities of this website will continue to be available to you in the future. 
It is our intention to provide continuing professional development opportunities for teachers of Agricultural Science. A team of enthusiastic colleagues are currently developing exemplar teaching and learning resource materials. Some of these have been uploaded under the Teaching Resources heading. We plan to organise Induction courses in Oct and resource meetings in November where resources will be shared and the exemplar materials disseminated –  dates and venues will be uploaded onto the website shortly.

To ensure that you are notified about all relevant courses, enter your school name, school roll number and your email and mobile details under the Register heading.

If you are an experienced teacher who is passionate about your subject and wish to work with like minded colleagues I invite you to apply to become a local facilitator.

Local Facilitators are teachers who are willing to volunteer to contribute to CPD in their subject or programme areas or other areas where they have expertise and a willingness to contribute. If you wish to become a Local Facilitator in Agricultural Science, please email timregan@slss.ie

I urge all teachers to regularly use the website forum and share ideas and thoughts with each other. Exchanging ideas and sharing good practice reaffirms our work as professionals.

This website will be continually updated and contain details of upcoming support courses and evaluated classroom resources. If you use active teaching and learning strategies or have generated a classroom resource which you wish to share with colleagues, please contact me.
